This shape is the original 1952 Duo Jet. I own a 5230 guitar and this is my solution to the fact that there's little to no room for a pickguard to fit underneath the strings. This design and placement not only looks great but feels very natural when playing. In my opinion, is what should be done in the factory instead of that paper thin guard it comes with. I have tried every shape and design to end up with this solution to share with you. Note: You will have to drill 1 new hole to install.
